you could always try meetladyboy.com and meet one of the members (it worked for me). That way you can have an idea of who they are and not just spend time with a "working girl".

Manila is a shock to the system if you've never been in asia before. Parts of it are dirty and run down, you can cut the air with a knife, poverty is everywhere, but the people are incredible. Must see's include the Jose Rizal Shrine, Intramuros, and the National Museum of the Philippines. Read up on Jose Rizal before you arrive an amaze the locals that you know some of their history (he was a very interesting man, by the way.)

As for meeting TG women, the ones that are easy to meet work in bars, and charge for their time. Not all that many are attractive, but simply guys in drag trying to make ends meet (see note about poverty above)

Manila is the most expensive part of the Philippines. Places like Cebu, Angeles etc are sooo much cheaper, cleaner too.

I'll be over there in 6 weeks, looking forward to escaping the world.

Tony is right. Maybe you'll have to befriend someone from the Philippines so you could have a trustworthy companion during your stay.

I vouch for the hospitality of the Filipinos, but only if you where in a close ties with someone. A friend would foremost introduce you to their family and would see to it that you are taken care of. this is a typical Filipino custom. They would definitely tour you to the country side and a lot of family- like mini parties and gatherings. Its common in the suburbs, but not in Manila.

But if you're out there with someone you just knew from the street, i doubt you would have good time. Manila is a bit upbeat, and people tend to please themselves rather than please the visitors.

1) Befriend someone beforehand.
2) Don't use idle taxis that offer flat rates.
3) Stay in Makati City if you can - much more comfortable from a Westerner's view point (*the streets near Oxford Suites are teeming with working girls, LB included... if that's your thang )

5) Hold your personal effects close to you if using a 'jeepney' as transport.
