Has anyone read anything related article bout depression among transgender?

I am curious because I'm having depression and I'm on medication (Serlift).. Been a week on serlift and I feel abit better then before..

I was wondering, if hormones injections and pills contribute some level of depression effects.. or maybe I'm just having hard time for the past 1 year..

Any advice for me? or treatment?

I used Lexapro which I think is similar to Serlift for over a year - changed my life - When I started taking it, I had a stockpile of drugs that I was going to use to kill myself. Taking the antidepressant save my life - that is why I get angry at my friend who is anti-drug - She thinks antidepressants are a pharmaceutical company conspiracy. :x

I don't know about Serlift, but I was told Lexapro would take about 4 weeks to really kick in -so hang in there with the dosage. I did however notice a difference within a week. So keep up with it and don't miss doeses. :)

Yes, hormones are known causes of depression - progesterone is a big one too. Look for the product information for your hormones on the internet if they didn't come with the packets.

Of course, having a hard time will impact. Look after yourself and try to stay positive and if you can't - get help.

M.

Plenty of great uplifting moods, and some slight depression.
I don't seem to notice or mind the depression as much.
I feel very stable and happy. I do notice some slight sadness,
however the strong waves of depression I had for years
aren't as prolonged. I believe that my depression was mostly
based on thought-patterns and circumstances. I was on
some pharmaceuticals awhile ago which were prescribed
for similar reasons. I do not miss them.

oztgirl, you should visit other European countries as well especially if you've never been to Italy and France...

I hope to, it just so happens that I have an invested interest in Greece. I am learning the language and I have someone there who I miss everyday. I really want to visit most of the major European countries especially France. I would also like to visit Germany and Spain. I also really want to visit places like Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria and Egypt. With the political climate the way it is I have gone a bit soft on Egypt especially considering I am trans. I wonder how safe it would be to travel alone as a TS? Although I think state of mind plays a big part of travel safety. I would still like to travel with a friend.

Yes, depression is common among transsexuals, mainly because it is a hard life in many respects, and also many transsexuals go into transition with unrealistic expectations.
Some think that transition will solve all their problems, and when one wakes up on the other side, and still sees most of the problems they hoped to leave behind, it can be very depressing.
That being said, we must work on our health, stay active and involved with others. The single most important issue to keep depression away is having friends, and a loving and reliable support group.

its really kinda depressing to be a transexual... u feel sometimes that u are being left out, alone and nowhere to go... its normal, i guess, coz i feel the same way sometimes. one of my friend told me that this can be because of the hormones that im taking (but now i stopped taking it). its called hormonal imbalance that leads to depression and certain anxiety, feeling negative and blue. what i do to overcome this is i go out with mt friends and try to think positively...
