Tony, München is a nice city with a lot of places where to go and what to see. Museums, art galleries, night clubs... Depends on what are you into. We have a few local beer brands I'm sure you would like them if you drink beer :)

How are you studying German Demyx? Studying alone or uni? I am studying Greek at uni but I am giving it a rest for 6 months and going back to it next year.

I am dabbling in a little bit of Persian. It's a beautiful language but I am quite busy so haven't really committed to it. I have an Iranian lover (not really a boyfriend :) ) living in Greece who I am going to visit in 11 days time. This gives me a little extra motivation. The writing system is particularly beautiful.

I am also really keen on learning Old English. I have just been reading about it and find historical linguistics very interesting. It would also be fantastic to be able to read the archaic forms of my own language and makes perfect cultural sense but I can't study old English at my local uni and no universities offer it by distance so I may have to wait.

I have the option of studying German on-campus here in my local town but I haven't considered German a priority for my language interests, although it is closely related to English - they are both on the same sub-branch of Indo-European. On that note, Frisian, also on the same sub-branch, is what linguists believe old English sounded most like. When you hear old English read aloud you can hear the Germanic phonology coming through. By the time Middle English came about, French had softened the language considerably although the grammar remained very Germanic (and still is I believe).

Mame
