Hi everyone. I'm 16 years old and a FTM. I have recently come out at school and they have been very supportive. My teachers call me by my chosen name and use male pronouns, I haven't actually come into much opposition at my school which is great. Except I want to use the male washroom, right now I just don't use the washrooms if i really have to I can go to the drama room but it's very out of the way and my teachers don't usually let me leave class long enough to walk all that way and back again. I wan't to ask to use the male washroom but I'm not sure how to do it in a way that will encourage them to let me. Has anyone does this? Suggestions? Thank you.

Hmmm...

No expert on FTM, but I know in South-East Asia MTFs are fine to use the female bathrooms. Although I have heard some reports of some close-minded co-workers objecting to colleagues they now are TS girls using the female toilets - but only rarely and only those toilets they themselves frequent.

As far as how to ask, I'd simply go to the principle or dean and put it to them that you're a FTM transgender person and would feel more comfortable using the male washroom in lieu of the female one. If they're accepting you every other way like you say, I don't see why issues regarding the toilet should be any different. It would likely be other students from where the objections may come. All you can do is try though...

Also, I'd come armed with some factual information and leave your coy hat at the door because they may want to know the mechnics of how you expect to use a latrine etc (assuming you would want to use the latrine per se - dunno - no FTM expert, like I said! :P ). And if you come across as ignorant, unprepared or shy in this respect, they might think all you're doing is wanting play the 'role' or are even up to something sordid(!), as distinct from having a legitimate need for having this request filled.

Thanks for your reply. When I use the male washrooms in public I just go in and use the stall where there is a toilet, no one has really ever bothered me. People don't really see me there actually. The only times I got harassed was by a woman on waiting outside if the washroom for someone and told me to use the other ones and then I had a waitress at a restaurant tell me I needed to use the
"right" washroom.
The only update I have is from my Drama teacher; he told me the staff were discussing this one day and they don't want me to use male washrooms so I have to be prepared for rejection though he will back me up. Which is nice to know.
