'For just about everybody, adolescence means having to confront a number of choices and life decisions, but rarely any as monumental as the one facing 15 year-old Alex (Ines Efron,) who was born an intersex child (with both male and female genitalia). As Alex begins to explore her sexuality, her mother invites friends from Buenos Aires to come for a visit at their house on the gorgeous Uruguayan shore, along with their 16-year-old son Álvaro (Martin Piroyanski.) Alex is immediately attracted to the young man, which adds yet another level of complexity to her personal search for identity, and forces both families to face their worst fears.'

opinions on film?
and characters are soo intence
i like how in which it really queastions the need for gender
Questioning how we either need to be male or female.

i have watched many coming of age film, and this one is one of my favourites with 'stand by me'.

XXY is a thought-provoking film from Argentina. On particularly dark days I recall some of the dignity and strength of the child. S/He, after being confronted by boys, struggles and runs. The fathers quest for knowledge, skill, and peace is noble; when he finds an FTM interssexed person & finds that fate may be close within reach.

This film portrays a country-side town, which has a charm of it's own. The quiet nature and sea-side shots awaken an ethereal realm in the film. The ambient sound-track, and dialogue don't hurt either.

Just saw this film last night. Very touching. One of the best Trans/Intersex movies I have seen.

Looks interesting. Might check it out.

Just hope it isn't another of those maudlin tales about sorrowful transsexuals and the insular types that don't accept/understand them.

I think I remember the scene you are talking about :)

I like the scene where the two boys and the TS character are on the beach and one of the boys goes for a pee and the girl goes and pees beside him ...standing up! :)

Not too bad a watch - 7/10.

The only problem with it is, it doesn't really go anywhere and the lead isn't a convincing transsexual for mine (she is a genetic girl, right? :? ).

The sex scene is also about as realistic as the Brokeback Mountain one - no lube or foreplay?!
Please...
